ALADDIN'S OUTLINE



OUTLINE FROM THE DISNEY'S MOVIE "ALADDIN"
This is an outline I've made as a part of a course about drama and storytelling I'm taking. In the future, this will be the base of a brief adapted script to prepare with my pupils.  All the images and references are taken with non-profit aim, just educational and pedagogical purpose and are subject to copyright.

SYNOPSIS

 

Aladdin is a poor but a good-hearted man who lives in Agrabah. He’s got a pet, Abu. He longs for the love of Princess Jasmin. Aladdin helped by his monkey Abu, the Gennie and Carpet, will fight against the ambition of Jafar in order to make his dream come true.  Will he get the love of Jasmin?
 

CHARACTER OBJECTIVES

1-ALADDIN: He wants the love of Jasmin. He also longs to change his social situation.

2- GENNIE: he wants to be free.

3- JASMIN: she wants to get married for love

4-JAFAR: he wants to be the most powerful man in the World.

5- SULTAN: he wants his daughter to be happy, but he has a strong sense of duty.

6- IAGO (PARROT): he wants to be powerful as Jafar.

7- ABU (MONKEY) : he wants to change his social situation and be wealthy and rich, but is good-hearted deep inside.

8- CARPET: it wants to have friends and don’t feel lonely anymore

9- RAJA  (TIGER): he wants Jasmin to be happy

10-PEDDLER (NARRATOR): he wants to get money.

11- GAZEEM: he wants to be wealthy.

12- POOR CHILDREN: they’re hungry
 
13- PRINCE ACHMED: he wants to marry Jasmin to be powerful.

14- LADIES FROM THE BAZAAR: they like Aladdin

15- PEDDLER FROM THE BAZAAR: he wants money.

 SCENE BREAKDOWN

 

SCENE 1

Peddler is walking through desert. He shows his products and talks about the magic lamp. He starts to tell the story.

 

 
 
 
SCENE 2
 
 
 
In the middle of nowhere, Gazeem gives Jafar the half part of a golden beetle. Jafar matches the two halves, so the beetle flyes and stops at the Wonder Cave’s door. The door opens, so Gazeem comes into the cave to search for the Magic Lamp. He is not the chosen one, so the cave’s door closes and swallows Gazeem. 
                                              
 
SCENE 3
 
Aladdin has stolen a piece of bread at the bazaar, so guards follow him through the streets of Agrabah. He sings a song while running away. He finally manage to scape and stop to eat with Abu. They see two hungry children, so they feed them. They hear music, it’s Prince Achmed Parade. Achmed’s horse is about to be stepped on a child, so Aladdin puts him safe. Achmed gets angry and stultifies Aladdin. Aladdin goes back home singing with Abu, and they dream of changing their social situation and being wealthy.
 
 
 






Achmed is turned off by Jasmin, and he feel cheated, so he goes very angry. Jasmin tell to his father she wants to get married for love. She goes and Jafar comes into the throne room. Jafar talks to the Sultan and hypnotizes him to steal his ring. Jasmin escapes from Palace.
 

SCENE 5 
 
 
 
Jasmin is hungry, so she takes an apple from a bazaar stall. The peddler ask her to pay, but she hasn’t got money. He wants to cut her hand and he begs for mercy. Aladdin put her safe, but the peddler starts shouting they are thieves. They run away to Aladdin’s home.
 



 
SCENE 6

 
Jafar and Iago are in the lab. Iago is running a wheel and Jafar puts Sultan’s ring on a holder. Then Jafar asks for the name of the chosen one to come into the Wonder Cave, and it appears the image of Aladdin. 









SCENE 7

 
Aladdin and Jasmin are at Aladdin’s home. Both think they are safe now, but Jafar has ordered the guards to capture him, so Jasmine tries to stop them by revealing herself as the Princess. Guards don’t obey her because they follow Jafar’s orders.


SCENE 8

 
Jasmin asks Jafar for explanations and ask Jafar to release Aladdin, but he says there’s no point because he has been sentenced to death. Jasmin goes crying out




SCENE 9

 
Aladdin is in prison. He feels lucky for having met Jasmin, he’s fallen in love with her. Then, an old man (who is Jafar dressed up) appears and talks about the Wonder Cave and the magic lamp. He offers a treat to Aladdin: he will help him to escape from prison if he helps him to get the lamp from the Cave

SCENE 10

 
At the Cave’s door, Jafar insist on the treat: Aladdin can keep all the wealth and jewels that he may find, but bringing him the lamp before. Aladdin and Abu come into the cave, and start searching for the lamp. Suddenly, they find something moving and spying them. It is Carpet, a lonely magic flying carpet that has been thousands of years alone inside the cave. Aladdin asks the Carpet for help and it joins them and act like a guide inside the cave. They arrive to the lamp’s room, and when Aladdin is taking the lamp, Abu touches a ruby and everything starts to melt. They run to get out of the cave and when they are at the door, Jafar snatches the lamp from Aladdin’s hands and push him to fall. But Abu is cleverer and he get the lamp. When the Cave closes, Jafar realizes he hasn’t got the lamp and he swears yelling.
 
 
SCENE 11

 
Aladdin wakes up inside the cave and realizes they are trapped. Abu shows him the lamp, and, when Aladdin tries to read an inscription he scrubs the lamp and the Gennie appears. He sings a song telling about his powers and after that, Aladdin cheats the Gennie to take them out of the cave without wasting any of his 3 wishes.

SCENE 12

 
They land the Carpet near an Oasis at the desert, and they talk about the wish he should ask. Gennie says he would ask to be free. Aladdin promises his last wish will be to release him. Then, the Gennie help him to choose his wish, so Aladdin ask the Gennie to become him a prince to get the love of Jasmin. Also he becomes Abu into an elephant.


SCENE 13
In her room, Jasmin is so sad and tell to his father that Jafar has ordered to kill Aladdin. Then Iago and Jafar come up with the idea that some ancient law says that if the princess don’t find any suitor, she must marry the visir, Jafar. She starts yelling she don’t want to be a princess anymore


SCENE 14
Aladdin is on his way to the Royal Palace with his parade. When he arrives, the Sultan welcomes Aladdin (as Prince Ali) and tries to introduce him to Jasmin, who goes angrily when she realizes that a new suitor is trying to marry her without having asked her
 

SCENE 15

Prince Ali appears on Jasmin’s balcony in order to fix the misunderstanding. She suspects that he is the boy he met at the bazaar, but he lies and says he isn’t. They go to fly around the world singing a song and they fall in love.
When Aladdin brings Jasmin home, he is captured by Jafar’s guards and they throw him to the see. By accident he scrubs the lamp and the Gennie put him safe. Aladdin tells the Gennie what has happened, so they go back to the palace.


SCENE 16

Jafar hypnotizes the Sultan. Then the Sultan goes to Jasmin Room and order her to marry Jafar, because Aladdin has gone.
Suddenly Aladdin appears alive and discover the lies of Jafar. Sultan order the guards to capture Jafar, but he fades away with a smoke trick. Jasmin and Prince Ali say the Sultan they want to get married.


SCENE 17
Iago and Jafar invent a plan to unmask Aladdin and usurp the throne. In the meantime, Gennie and Aladdin argue about if he should say Jasmin the truth about who he really is, and they get angry. Aladdin forget the lamp in the garden, and Iago steals it for Jafar

SCENE 18
The Sultan is at the Palace Balcony to introduce Aladdin to his vassals. When Jasmin, Aladdin and the Sultan are greeting the people outside, Jafar ask 2 wishes to the Gennie: he wants to be the Sultan and to have supernatural powers. Gennie has no remedy, so he does. Jafar enslaves Jasmin and her father and throw Aladdin away inside a tower.


SCENE 19

Aladdin appears in the middle of a snowfall with Abu (as a monkey again) and Carpet. They are frozen and damaged, but they must fly back to the palace to fight Jafar
 
SCENE 20

Back in palace, Aladdin fights Jafar, and he cheats on Jafar to make him waste his third wish. Jafar asks to be a Gennie, so he is captured inside a black lamp and the hex that Jafar had put on the princess and Sultan disappeared.

Everything settles down. The sultan says that they cannot get married because Aladdin is not a prince. Then Aladdin decides his third wish: release the Gennie. Seeing how good at heart Aladdin is, the Sultan makes a new law: the princess can get married whoever she wants.

SCENE 21

Jasmin and Aladdin are just married flying to the moon, singing their song.
The moon turns and it appears the face of the Gennie smiling happily.

  1. Children usually love classical tales where the main characters are princes and princesses. In this story we can learn about the effort because Aladdin was a poor boy who fighted against Jafar to achieve his goal: to get married to his loving Jasmine.
    As they know the plot in their mother tongue, second graders can focus on the most important structures, pronunciation, intonation and rythm.
